La patria potestad prorrogada y la patria potestad rehabilitada en el nuevo proyecto de ley de reforma de la legislación civil y procesal para el apo…
2021
It is intended to analyze and reflect in the present work about the institution of the extension of parental authority and parental authority rehabilitated in the new regulation in the Draft Law that reforms the civil and procedural legislation to support people with disabilities in the exercise of their legal capacity. In this project, the extended parental authority and the rehabilitated parental authority are eliminated from the scope of disability, following a criterion that demands the treatment of people with disabilities with the attention that their specific situation requires, eliminating a regime that seems contrary to the system of promoting the autonomy of adults with disabiliti…
Complete written/oral information about dose exposure in CT: is it really useful to guarantee the patients' awareness about radiation risks?
2018
Aims and objectives: According to the European directive 2013/59/Euratom, starting from February 2018, the information relating to patient exposure will be part of computed tomography (CT) reports, but the impact of this information on patients has not been deeply evaluated. Aim of our study was to evaluate patients’ perception of radiation exposure related to routine CT and their understanding after communication of their dose exposure. Materials and methods: A survey, investigating patient’s knowledge of radiation dose, was given to all adult patients (> 18 years) undergoing a CT examination both before and after CT scan. The first survey was the same for all patients. After CT scan, a se…
Are we overusing abdominal computed tomography scans in young patients referred in an emergency for acute abdominal pain?
2022
Purpose: The primary objective was to assess the frequency of appropriateness of computed tomography (CT) for acute abdominal pain (AAP) in the emergency department; the secondary aim was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound (US) and CT in the diagnosis of the aetiology of AAP for diseases that can be diagnosed by US; and the third objective was to assess extent to which inappropriate CT examinations for AAP result in ionizing radiation exposure. Material and methods: In this retrospective single-centre study, we included patients aged between 15 and 46 years referred to the emergency department for AAP in 2016 and submitted to abdominal CT scans, collecting a total of 586 patie…
“A Miracle of Architecture”: The Billiemi limestone Columns of the Church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini in Palermo and Domenico Fontana’s Method for Li…
2014
Obligations and Remedies Under a Related Service Contract
2014
Following the model of Directive 2011/83/EU of the 25 October 2011 on consumer rights, the proposed CESL regulation is structured on the basis of sales and service contracts. With regard to service contracts, however, the CESL only regulates those service contracts whose existence is justified by their direct link to sales contracts.
Distortion of symmetrical introgression in a hybrid zone: evidence for locus-specific selection and uni-directional range expansion
2006
The fate of species integrity upon natural hybridization depends on the interaction between selection and dispersal. The relative significance of these processes may be studied in the initial phase of contact before selection and gene flow reach equilibrium. Here we study a hybrid zone of two salamander species, Lyciasalamandra antalyana and Lyciasalamandra billae, at the initial phase of hybridization. We quantify the degree and mode of introgression using nuclear and mtDNA markers. The hybrid zone can be characterized as an abrupt transition zone, the central hybrid zone being only c. 400 m, but introgressed genes were traced up to 3 km. Introgression was traced in both sexes but gene flo…
CLINICAL OUTCOMES OF SELF-EXPAMDABLE METALLIC STENTS IN PALLIATION OF MALIGNANT ANASTOMOTIC STRICTURES: A SINGLE CENTER EXPERIENCE
2015
Background: self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) are employed as the preferred non surgical palliative treatment for gastric outlet obstruction due to malignancies. Metallic stents are often employed to treat malignant anastomotic obstructions after surgicsl interventions as esophagojejunostomy, gastrojejunostomy and esophagogastrojejunostomy. Methods: this case series reports prospectively the clinical outcomes of SEMS in the palliative care of malignant anastomotic strictures caused by the recurrence gastric cancer follwing gastric surgery as oncological curative treatment, in a series of nine consecutive patients, treated between January 2009 and december 2012 in our center. Results: N…
Experimental investigation of the breakdown of the Onsager-Casimir relations
2006
We use magnetoconductance fluctuation measurements of phase-coherent semiconductor billiards to quantify the contributions to the nonlinear electric conductance that are asymmetric under reversal of magnetic field. We experimentally determine that the average asymmetric contribution is linear in magnetic field (for magnetic flux much larger than one flux quantum) and that its magnitude depends on billiard geometry. In addition, we find an unexpected asymmetry in the power spectrum characteristics of the magnetoconductance with respect to reversal of magnetic field and bias voltage.
Universality of level spacing distributions in classical chaos
2007
Abstract We suggest that random matrix theory applied to a matrix of lengths of classical trajectories can be used in classical billiards to distinguish chaotic from non-chaotic behavior. We consider in 2D the integrable circular and rectangular billiard, the chaotic cardioid, Sinai and stadium billiard as well as mixed billiards from the Limacon/Robnik family. From the spectrum of the length matrix we compute the level spacing distribution, the spectral auto-correlation and spectral rigidity. We observe non-generic (Dirac comb) behavior in the integrable case and Wignerian behavior in the chaotic case. For the Robnik billiard close to the circle the distribution approaches a Poissonian dis…
Two-dimensional quantum scattering by non-isotropic interactions localized on a circle, applications to open billiards
2018
Two-dimensional quantum scattering by isotropic and non-isotropic interactions localized on a circle is considered. The expansion of the interaction on the circle in a Fourier series allows us to express basic objects of scattering theory (resolvent, T operator, differential cross length, cross length, and cross length averaged over all orientations of the incident particle), in terms of operations on matrices. For numerical applications, these matrices are truncated to a given order. If the interaction is isotropic, this general formulation reduces to the usual one, and the resonances in the isotropic cases are studied because they allow us to interpret resonances in some non-isotropic cas…
